Quantum computers leverage quantum mechanical phenomena to manipulate information. To do this, they rely on quantum bits, also known as qubits, which can be both a zero and a one at the same time. And this principle is what gives quantum computers its superior computing power. So imagine me playing two musical notes at once. What you will hear is a superposition of the two notes. Now a superposition is a combination of states. we would ordinarily describe independently. So in summary, this all comes down to classical computers approaching a problem and solving it one by one in a very linear fashion due to the nature of binary computer logic. Now a quantum computer, on the other hand, can simultaneously look at multiple problems at once, resulting in instantaneous solutions that would otherwise take our fastest classical computers hundreds of years to solve.
